Cases That Inspired Poppy King

While recently reading about the antique accessories that inspired Poppy King to select gold for the Kate Spade supercalifragilipstick! cases, my jaw quite literally dropped when I spied this image.

Dead center in this photo of cases from the ’40s and ’50s is a case I once owned! Yes, I owned a case exactly like the one in the middle–adorned with a jewel encrusted dollar symbol–as a little girl. I snagged it for about $1 at a garage sale and treasured it for years. This golden little gem was actually a wallet. Inside, attached to the top, was a simple golden clip for holding paper money. The bottom contained slots that perfectly fit coins in each denomination. As you could imagine, this style didn’t allow for storing vast quantities of money. But it held everything PERFECTLY, and in a way a true lady could access exactly what she needed gracefully and with style.

I positively obsessed over this case, and had no idea what became of it. Could it be that the case in this image was actually once mine?

If age-old classic style and the gleam of gold appeals to you too, you’re going to love the gleaming gold cases of Kate Spade Supercalifragilipstick!, designed by Poppy King. These lipstick tubes are a true accessory, and bring to mind the days where everything one carried was designed to be flaunted.
